One of the symptoms of an approaching nervous breakdown is the belief that one’s work is terribly important.
——Bertrand Russell, British philosopher

Asking a working writer what he thinks about critics is like asking a lamppost how it feels about dogs.
——Christopher Hampton, British playwright

Work is either fun or drudgery. It depends on your attitude. I like fun.
——Colleen C. Barrett, corporate secretary of Southwest Airlines

A good rule of thumb is if you’ve made it to thirty-five and your job still requires you to wear a name tag, you’ve made a serious vocational error.
——Dennis Miller, American comedian

Early to bed and early to rise probably indicates unskilled labor.
——John Ciardi, American poet

Work is of two kinds: first, altering the position of matter at or near the earth’s surface relative to other matter; second, telling other people to do so.
——Bertrand Russell, British philosophe

Wednesdays are like Mondays in the middle of the week!
——Lee Fox Williams, British actor

The ancient Romans had a tradition: Whenever one of their engineers constructed an arch, as the capstone was hoisted into place, the engineer assumed accountability for his work in the most profound way possible——he stood under the arch.
——Michael Armstrong, American businessman and former CEO of AT&T

Your business clothes are naturally attracted to staining liquids. This attraction is strongest just before an important meeting.
——Scott Adams, American cartoonist and creater of the Dilbert comics

You don’t make progress by standing on the sidelines, whimpering and complaining. You make progress by implementing ideas.
——Shirley Hufstedler, former secretary of education

If you love your job, you haven’t worked a day in your life.
——Tommy Lasorda, American major league baseball player
and manager

It is easy to fool yourself. It is possible to fool the people you work for. It is more difficult to fool the people you work with. But it is almost impossible to fool the people who work under you.
——Harry B. Thayer, American businessman

Don’t worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you’ll have to ram them down people’s throats.
——Howard H. Aiken, American computer engineer
