With population aging driving growing demand for rehabilitation, Taiwanese manufacturers are seeking new ways to transform their manufacturing capabilities into global competitiveness. NGATE TECHNOLOGY is leveraging its background in community networking and telemedicine, along with its expertise in hardware-software integration and health data analytics, to bring AI-powered personalization to rehabilitation. The company has also united 12 industry partners under the Taiwan Precision Rehab Alliance. Through international trade shows and collaboration with medical technology industry association, the alliance has secured its first orders in Singapore and Vietnam as it steps up efforts to tap into Southeast Asia’s growing market.
At a day care center, seniors pedal away on rehabilitation equipment. The system does more than record exercise data: it can tailor training intensity to each individual’s abilities, track changes in muscle strength, and help adjust subsequent training programs. For many rural communities and local care centers, however, purchasing the equipment is only the beginning. The greater challenge lies in interpreting the data, continuously monitoring outcomes, and designing exercise programs suited to each senior’s needs. Huang Jung-Tsung, General Manager of NGATE TECHNOLOGY, observes that even when traditional senior fitness services have measurement equipment, a shortage of qualified coaches can limit their ability to deliver personalized training. When seniors cannot see tangible results from exercise or rehabilitation, it becomes much harder for them to stay motivated and maintain a consistent routine.
Established in 1993, NGATE TECHNOLOGY traces its roots to community networking services. The company went on to build community health stations integrating physiological monitoring devices with telemedicine, developing extensive experience in device connectivity, data transmission, and system integration. In 2018, NGATE TECHNOLOGY joined the Apollo Project, spearheaded by National Taiwan University Hospital Yunlin Branch to promote smart elderly care and preventive medicine. The initiative reached 17 townships and 42 community locations throughout Yunlin County, providing more than 10,000 health-monitoring sessions each year.
NGATE TECHNOLOGY has established demonstration sites in Taiwan to showcase the applications of AI-powered smart rehabilitation equipment. By integrating health data analytics with training functions, the initiative explores the potential for implementing smart rehabilitation services in community settings and elderly care facilities.
Hardware Manufacturing Meets Software-Driven Intelligence
In recent years, NGATE TECHNOLOGY has incorporated sensors, control systems, and AI-powered analytics into exercise equipment, transforming devices from basic measurement tools into systems that can also monitor training progress. At the same time, Taiwanese manufacturers of healthcare equipment and rehabilitation aids have come under increasing export pricing pressure over the past two years, driven by changing tariffs and stronger global competition. Huang observes, “When competition is based only on hardware specifications and pricing, profit margins can quickly come under pressure. Smart rehabilitation requires expertise in sensing, control systems, data analytics, and system integration, and no single company necessarily has all these capabilities in-house.”
NGATE TECHNOLOGY has assembled 12 industry partners into the Taiwan Precision Rehab Alliance, bringing together rehabilitation equipment, medical devices, and software technologies. Its modular approach allows different devices to work together in an integrated system, enhanced by AI-driven data analytics and personalized training capabilities. The alliance’s AI Precision Rehab Products combines 10 rehabilitation functions, including hand and leg training, endurance, balance, etc. AI analyzes users’ muscle strength and training records to support individualized intensity settings and track progress across muscle groups. By combining these capabilities with gamified exercises and a digital rehabilitation coach, the suite aims to make rehabilitation more tailored, engaging, and interactive.
Huang notes that high-end rehabilitation equipment from major German manufacturers can cost more than NT$1 million per unit. Taiwanese manufacturers could strengthen their competitiveness in export markets by leveraging their manufacturing expertise and incorporating precision measurement and smart technologies to deliver greater value at competitive prices. The key to NGATE TECHNOLOGY’s ability to help smaller companies compete with industry leaders is its expertise in integrating hardware and software. This capability allows hardware manufacturers to avoid the time and resources required to develop an entire system from scratch, while increasing product value and transforming their business models from selling equipment alone to delivering end-to-end solutions.

Expanding Market Channels and Gaining International Traction Through Alliance
Beyond product upgrades, reaching overseas buyers and building market trust remain major challenges for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) expanding internationally. Recognizing Singapore’s aging population and growing demand for rehabilitation services, NGATE TECHNOLOGY has leveraged support from the International Thematic Alliance government program and medical technology industry association to connect with local trade associations and potential customers. This collaborative approach enables Taiwanese companies with complementary expertise to jointly expand into overseas markets through an industry alliance.
At this year’s Medical Taiwan, the alliance engaged with international buyers and obtained initial orders. It continued its overseas outreach in September at Medical Fair Asia 2026 in Singapore, where it coordinated product displays and promotional activities and expanded its reach through social media and short-form video content.
According to NGATE TECHNOLOGY, customers in Singapore and Vietnam have already adopted its products. The alliance has also received an invitation to exhibit at another trade show in Vietnam toward the end of the year.
For Huang, the alliance is far more than a joint trade show initiative. It enables manufacturers, system integrators, healthcare application providers, and distribution partners to combine their expertise and play complementary roles. As rehabilitation needs increasingly extend from hospitals to communities, senior day care centers, and home-based care, Taiwanese companies can move beyond competing on price alone. By turning their manufacturing know-how into intelligent, personalized rehabilitation solutions, they have an opportunity to introduce Taiwan’s technology integration capabilities to markets across ASEAN.
