The new complex not only combines government services, social welfare, childcare, and public amenities, but also uses locally inspired design to create a welcoming public service hub for people of all ages, redefining the conventional image of a government office.

At Shiquan Park in the East District, a sleek, oval-shaped structure bordered by butterfly pea flowers seamlessly blends into the landscape. In Beitun District’s Shuinan Ecological Park, a white-and-blue Mediterranean-style building stands prominently against lush greenery. And in the North District, the whimsically named “Piggy Park” features a playful restroom adorned with piglet ears and snouts. Surprisingly, all of these are public toilets! Recently, through the “Taichung Melody Sunshine Project,” the city has transformed these everyday facilities into showcases of urban aesthetics. This innovative initiative even earned a Merit Award in the Environmental Planning & Design category at the 2025 Taiwan Landscape Award, underscoring Taichung’s commitment to creative, people-centered urban design.
